The Perfect Trio

"Sentimental Journey" was "The Perfect Trio" at a Hayward assisted living home's Winter Ball.  With a repertoire including "It's a Wonderful Life" by Louis Armstrong, "Route 66" made famous by Nat King Cole, to the Andrew Sisters "Bei Mir Bist Du Shein." And, to top it all off, Lisa's funny rendition of Jingle Bells.

                                              Quick, Call the Fire Department

Don't even think  of singing that popular Christmas carol, "Chestnuts Roasting on an open Fire." Why?  The Grinch would put a damper by calling the fire department. The Grinch was a surprise performer at a 160-person party at a Livermore winery. Joining the Grinch was a strolling magician and a DJ. Partygoers decorated their own Ginger Bread and Christmas cookies, adding a cherished keepsake to the afternoon festivities.

Fortune Sticks not Chopsticks

Fortune Sticks, tarot cards, and palm reading were in full array at a Danville, CA VIP. Some partygoers were amazed when a Chinese fortune teller told them that their marriages were thriving, and; that their personalities were in harmony. Partygoers danced to Earth, Wind, and Fire and patiently waited in line for their fortunes. #crowcanyoncountryclub

The Scarecrow gets a new Life

The Scarecrow was the perfect character for Halloween at a San Francisco Bay Area shopping center.  An improvisational actor posed for photos next to pumpkins, spider webs, witches, and goblins.

Boots for Walkin, not Stompin

Who would have believed? Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots were made for Walking" was included in a Country and Western theme. Yes, two guitarists included her iconic song along with Roger Miller's "King of the Road," Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash.  And, this talented duo featured traditional Appalachian and Irish music.

Supper Club with Sinatra

There was a Supper Club with a Sinatra impersonator and trio at an Eastbay venue. "Ole Blue Eyes" sang Sinatra's greatest hits while partygoeers feasted on steak and lobster. Yes, the Sands Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, closed in 1966. Some audience members had fond memories of "The Rat Pack Show" in the Copa Room. Congrats to this Eastbay venue for keeping the "Chairman of the Board's" memory alive.

Two Things for Certain

There are two things for certain (1) There are no Penny Gumball Machines (2) Rock and Roll is here to Stay. When a San Francisco shopping center had their 70th Anniversary, a Rock band played hit songs from the 50's and 60's. Do you remember The Bunny Hop; Duck Tail Haircuts for the guys: the '57 Chevy with the red fins; the stroll? Yes, enjoy Danny and the Juniors, Rock and Roll will never die.

The Rabbit out of the Hat Trick

Magic Mike didn't pull that rabbit out of the hat. He did make a rabbit magically appear from a tiny lock box. Would you trust this Magician with your wedding ring? Her gold wedding ring disappeared on stage only to magically reappear in another box held by an audience member.



 

Aloha Spirit

There was that "Aloha Spirit" at an Hawaiian theme in Los Gatos. An Hawaiian trio with Hula dancers added to the spirit of the islands. Partygoers were greeted with leis and authentic food including roasted pig and hand wrapped taro leaves. A colorful surf board was the backdrop for the musicians.

 Did he climb those 72 Steps

For his 50th birthday,  Rocky Balboa and the five Rocky movies, was the theme. Raised in Philadelphia, proud of his Italian heritage, what a surprise when a Rocky Balboa impersonator crashed his party. At age 50, not sure he could climb those 72 steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. More likely, Philly Cheesesteak and a birthday cake topped with the Liberty Bell were the refreshments.

Dances with the Wolves

She didn't dance with the wolves. That was Kevin Costner's Award Winning 1990 movie. The "Lizard Lady" did dance with a snake as part of a Middle Eastern Belly Dance performance in Los Gatos, CA. Joining the "Lizard Lady" was a full complement of dancers which included the sword dance and live music.

David was the "Rock Star" strumming on his guitar accompanied by Anna on the tambourine and harmonica.  Their audience sang the lyrics.

This Wedding Couple has Talent

A wedding celebration different from all others. Three celebrity impersonators were the judges for "America's Got Talent."  Guests were formed into teams and given skits. Impersonators Austin Powers, Marilyn, and Prince riffed on their presentations, later posing with the happy couple, their family, and friends. Talk about hobnobbing, talk about creativity.

Cinco de Mayo-Everything Latin

Everything Latin, mostly, at a Cinco De Mayo festival in Hayward.  A Latin duo played favorite songs from Mexico, Central, and South America. To end their performance, they added hits from the Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, the Beatles, and the Eagles.

A balloon artist sculpted Penguin balloons for the kids while their parents were potential home buyers at a San Jose model home opening. The adults got their home; the kids their balloon. Why Penguins? California is experiencing a cold wave with snow in the mountains; Penguins are found in the frigid Antarctica.

Let it Go

The girls dressed as Fairy Princesses and the boys were in rapt attention during a 40-minute Frozen Show.  Kelyn, as Elsa, rendition of "Let it Go" was the highlight. As Elsa, she later read from the Frozen book and posed for pictures. A balloon artist sculpted balloons as a keepsake.

A Chinese Fortune Teller divining fortunes by reading tea leaves was one of the entertainers for "The Year of the Rabbit" at a San Francisco Bay Area mall. Joining her was the Panda signifying good health and endurance; two calligraphers who translated names with Chinese Letters on fans; and the grand finale-Lion dancing.
